2008 Presidential Primary Voters' Guide

 

VOTER INFORMATION

IMPORTANT:  For the most current and accurate voter information, refer to the Summit County BOE website

New voting laws that went into effect in July 2006 may have different requirements for voting in future elections. The Summit County Board of Elections offers all the necessary information on the current voting requirements on their website to answer all your questions, including voter eligibility, registration, absentee ballots, etc.

You are qualified to vote if:
  • You are a citizen of the United States.

  • You are at least 18 years old on or before the day of the general election. If you will be 18 on or before November 6, you may vote in the primary election for candidates, but not on issues.

  • You have been a resident of Summit County for at least 30 days immediately before the election.

  • You are not incarcerated (in prison) for a felony conviction under the laws of the United States, this state or any other state of the United States.

  • You have not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court.

  • You register to vote at least 30 days before the election.

 

You may register to vote at any of the following locations:

  • Any Public Library (forms are available)
     

  • Any Public High School or Vocational School
     

  • Any Office of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles
     

  • Office of the Summit County Board of Elections
     

  • Office of the Summit County Treasurer

You may now vote absentee for any reason. You will need to submit an application, available to download from the Summit County Board of Elections website, or provide the following information in writing to the Summit County Board of Elections:

  • Name and voting residence address

  • Your birth date

  • A form of Identification. This may include driver's license number, last four digits of you social security number, a copy of a current photo identification, a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or other government document that shows your name and address. (only one of the suggested forms of identification is required)

  • Election in which you wish to vote

  • If the election is a primary declare your party choice or ask for an issues only ballot

  • The mailing address where the ballot should be sent

  • Your original signature is required
